The band was formed when Nick & Evan met each other
at the School Of Rock in South Hackensack, NJ. Nick
& Evan live in the River Edge section of Bergen County,
NJ. They traded some members until they found me (Jake)
from the Pascack Valley in the start of 2011. We established
our name as My Iron Heart when I got the idea looking
at Amen. The Animal's (now Life On Repeat) EP "My Iron
Heart". It made me think much about my best friend who
has had a life of struggle mentally and physically with
a failing heart that needs a pacemaker. We formerly
established ourselves with our first practice February
2011. We had it in our mind to write something heavy,
progressive, and thick; influenced by Oceano, Veil Of
Maya & Periphery. We sat together and wrote "Benigno"
in just a few hours as a band and it was just clicking.
Everything was falling into place beautifully. We kept
working hard on songs and had 4 songs ready for our
first show May 8, 2011 with The Albatross, Amongst The
Brave and a couple other local bands. We were very well
received at the venue. We made a handful of friends
right off the bat. People really enjoyed our cover of
"Message In A Bottle" which we still pull out at practice
sometimes for fun. We have to thank our friend Jay Sick
for booking & posting us in the local magazine "Steppin'
Out" for our first show. We stayed as a 3-piece throughout
2011 opening for acts like It Prevails, The Great Commission,
Legion, Life As A Ghost in Allentown, PA and all over
northern New Jersey. We continued into 2012 further
without anymore than the 3 of us playing with bands
like Famous Last Words, Delusions, King Conquer (2x),
Abiotic, Legend, Adaliah, Dr. Acula, Wretched & more.
We invested alot of money in buying out the presale's
for shows in areas that we had no draw. This method,
although draining our resources, paid off. We developed
fanbases in Long Island, Staten Island, South Jersey
and widened our draw in our area. We had 3 tours. A
minitour promoting our single "The Strength", The "My
Iron Heart-Ton" minitour, and the "You Sick Duck" tour.
We started working on our album and finished our EP
"Aumakua" March 2012 as the 1st of 4 sessions with our
good friend Kevin Antreassian at Backroom studios. Evan
had decided that he would step down as the drummer for
My Iron Heart in September 2012 due to conflicting personal
interests and graciously agreed to play our music video
shoot October 21, occasionally fill in for us along
with our friend Matt Bastos of Day In Day Out and complete
recording in the winter. When we went back in August
we decided to take the 2 EP sessions, single session,
and another EP session and start on making a full-length
15 track album entitled "Guardian". We went into the
studio at the end of December into January 2013 finishing
our album. At that point we stumbled across our 2 friends
Mike & Jason from Essex County who had just split from
their old band Faraday Space. They started to learn
the material and are really blossoming as our 2 new
guitarists. They played their first show with us February
22nd 2013 and we are looking forward to working with
them.
