Q1 For the record, who's answering the interview?
I'm Johnny, the entire 'crew' of Payment Due
Q2 What is your band's name? How did you come up with that name?
I was trying to find the right name and for some reason I was doing a google image search. I wasn't searching for "Payment Due" but there was an image of a tiny house on a calendar/blotter with a date circled with the words "payment due" on it. Somehow it was exactly what I was looking for, so I went with it.
Q3 So who's in the band and what instruments do you each play?
Just a one man show. It's me behind the guitar, the vocals, recording, mastering, gigging, etc.
Q4 How would you describe your sound. What makes you unique?
Ha, well I'm not so unique as it turns out. One small review of an EP I released on the DIY labled me as the "one man guitar troubadour" style that's apparently 'gaining popularity.'
Q5 What bands have influenced each of you?
As far as this project is concerned, I'd say a heavy influence is Elliot Smith, Tony Sly, City and Colour, and Anthony Raneri's acoustic stuff.
Q6 How experienced are you on the stage, a virgin or whore?
As Payment Due I've only played two live shows at this point. It's sort of a background project so other bands and their requirements usually take precedence. So I'm not a whore, but I've gotten to home base a couple times.
Q7 How would you describe your shows?
Easy going, quiet, and sometimes somber.
Q8 Tell us about your favorite show and why?
My first show as PD was pretty fun. The band I opened for was a local singer songwriter named Cheryl Murdock who was really great, and as it turns out an old friend played bass for her, so we were able to reconnect after a couple of years of losing touch. Also her band did an awesome cover of Ramble On. It rocked!
Q9 Tell us about your worst show and why?
I guess my 2nd show could be my worst, heh. The only people listening to my set were my wife and her best friend. I think there was a bachelor party going on in the bar so not many people were interested in an acoustic act. It was still fun though.
Q10 Tell Us About Your Dream Show, who you'd like to play with and where?
I'd love to open for City and Colour, but back when it was just Dallas and his guitar. He's got a full band now, which is cool but I really enjoyed his solo acoustic stuff. It's really heartfelt and beautiful so it'd be pretty awesome to open a show for him.
Q11 Do you have a street team and how can you join?
No, no street team. It's just me and my facebook page.
Q12 Do you have a record label and if not are you looking for one?
Not really looking for one. Just doing things on the DIY right now.
Q13 What are your plans for the future, in a year, 5 years?
I plan on releasing my 2nd album "CELLAR DOOR" at some point in the next couple of years. It's just a slow process since I'm busy with other band stuff. I hope it's out within the next five years!
Q14 Finally, do have any words on what Arm The Pit means to you?
I really appreciate this place. It's a great site that you can find band info, show times, interviews, pictures and videos of a band that is local to you (or not) and its quite easy to manage as an artist. Thanks for all the hard work John!
